US Half Dimes

The half dimes were manufactured in 1795 but has 1794 date. They weigh 1.35 grams, and its composition is .8924 silver and .1076 copper. The original obverse was the Flowing Hair Liberty, designed by Robert Scot. The reverse was standing eagle. In 1796, the Draped Bust replaced the reverse. In 1829, the Capped Bust was introduced and the shield eagle was changed from wings upturned to downward. In 1837, the design was changed to the Seated Liberty and the reverse carried the wording HALF DIME within an open wreath, circled by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. In 1838, a series of stars was added as a half frame to the portrait. Arrows were replaced by the date in 1853. In 1860, the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA were removed from the reverse and placed on the obverse. The series were closed out in 1873.
