US Half Cents
Half cents were introduced between 1793 and 1857. It seems to people that half cents will only bring inconvenience to daily life bying filling up people’s pockets. But half cents actually served an important function in circulation. When half cent coin was first introduced in 1793, the coin designed by Adam Eckfeldt had a portrait of Liberty facing left on its obverse and a wreathed reverse with the words half cent and United States of America. It weighed 6.74 grams and had 22 mm diameter. One year later, half coin was redesigned by Robert Scot and the Liberty was facing right instead of left. The reverse was restyled too. It weighed a little more and had 23 and half mm diameter. In 1795, half cent coin was redesigned again by John Gardner and but this time no specification was made.
